Kris Kristofferson, GBNF

Most folks have no idea what an amazing guy Kris Kristofferson was or the crazy story of how he took his American dream.

On the occasion of his death I am compelled to share a few things about the man.

Kris Kristofferson was one of the most amazing men of our lifetimes. He was a golden gloves boxer and a hell of a football and rugby player.

He studied literature at California’s Pomona College, where he became a Rhodes Scholar. He carried on his literature studies at Oxford’s Merton College, where he continued boxing.

Upon graduating from college, he joined the U.S. Army. He earned a Ranger Tab before becoming a helicopter pilot.

He was offered a teaching job at West Point but left the Army to go to Nashville and follow his dream.

He worked as a janitor at recording studios hoping to make a connection while flying helos to oil rigs and fighting fires in Alaska.

At 30 he still had not made it in music. So he stole a helicopter and landed it on Johnny Cashs lawn and gave him a demo tape for Sunday Morning coming down and the rest was history.

48 BMI Awards, 119 movie roles.

Wrote a slew of songs that became blockbuster hits for many of the legends in country, on top of his own hits.

Dude chased his dreams down and made them larger than he ever thought and its the most American thing there is.

Rest in peace brother, see you in Asgard
