The low gas price has 3 components.
1) Market manipulation via suspicious futures trading.
Just 15 minutes before U.S. President Trump announced on Tuesday that he would extend the ceasefire agreement with Iran, traders placed a series of bets on falling oil prices, with short positions totaling $430 million.
This is the third time this month, and the fourth time overall, that large-scale, precisely timed directional bets on oil prices have appeared in the market shortly before major news about a war in Iran was released.
Federal regulators (CFTC and SEC) are actively investigating “unprecedented” surges in oil futures trading that occurred just minutes before major White House announcements.
On multiple occasions in early 2026, traders placed massive bets (worth $800M – $950M) that oil prices would drop, right before President Trump posted on Truth Social about “de-escalating” the conflict or postponing strikes on Iran.
The Result: These well-timed trades allowed specific entities to profit massively while the announcements themselves momentarily crashed the global oil price, creating an artificial dip that didn’t reflect the physical supply reality.
The Accusation:
Lawmakers and watchdogs warn this looks like insider trading or leakage of non-public information to artificially manipulate the market downwards when politically convenient.
Nothing will happen……..until the Democrats take over in November.
If any of the administration, or the coalition of retards allied with it, can be shown to have participated or conspired, then these charges of insider trading will stick.
2) The aggressive draining of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to combat the price spike from the Iran conflict.n
The administration authorized the release of 172 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in March 2026.
This is for strategic needs. This was a short-sighted political patch similar to the 2022 releases.
By flooding the market with emergency oil, the administration artificially suppresses the price at the pump.
The problem ie that it has drained US emergency stockpiles to their lowest levels in 44 years (since the early 1980s). Trump went full Jimmy Carter.
If a hurricane hits the Gulf Coast or the war expands, the US has almost no “financial cushion” left, leaving the economy vulnerable to a catastrophic price shock later.
Coincidentally hurricane season started 4 days ago.
3) Temporary tax suspensions that critics argue act as artificial deflators.
The “Phantom” Tax Holiday
Proposals are floating to suspend the 18.4 cent/gallon federal gas tax through late 2026.
AKA “artificial deflation” because historically, companies keep about 20-80% of the tax cut as profit rather than passing it to you.
You might save pennies, but the Highway Trust Fund (which pays for road repairs) loses billions, eventually forcing the government to print more money or raise other taxes to fill the hole—effectively hiding the cost of gas in your future tax bill.
